When firefighters at Jamison Road Volunteer Fire Company walked into drill on February 23rd, they were expecting an Interior Qualification drill.  This would consist of an obstacle course designed to simulate potential environments in a fire setting, such as hanging wires, crawling, and dragging a dummy.

However, Chief Brian Nolan, Jr. surprised the crew with a new type of drill…. Firefighter Hockey. He said that he saw a video on Facebook of other fire companies playing and wanted to try it out.

We played regular floor hockey, but with a twist.  Firefighters were dressed in full gear, including breathing apparatus.  This ties into our  training because in a fire, firefighters must be aware of how much oxygen they are using and know how to conserve it when doing strenuous work.
